May 2018 Presidents Report

On behalf of Chamber Executive a huge thank you to all sponsors & everyone who nominated for the 2018 Business Awards, it was a great response & the Awards Gala Night on 26th May is going to be an exciting event not to be missed. Please get a group together & purchase your tickets for this event now.
Another big thank you to Chamber secretary Amanda Quarisa for the mammoth effort in getting these awards together.
Judging of the awards is in progress of anonymous, independent panel of experts & I don’t envy there job as I know there are a large number of great entries!

We have been working closely with new proposed East West Airlines to re-introduce Griffith to Melbourne flights. I am sure that those of you who have had the privilege to meet this potential new Airline operator on his recent visit will agree with me that his customer focused approach to providing this daily weekday service is very much welcomed.
Ultimately although we all would love to see this service happen it is us who will determine if this route is sustainable or not by putting our hands into our pockets & purchasing tickets. PLEASE get behind this great opportunity & enabler for our community.

Council have posted next years Draft Budget & Draft 10 year plan for ratepayer feedback by next Friday 11th May. (see below links & message)

Chamber will make a submission but we also ask as many of you as possible to review this draft plan & lodge a submission with your feedback & opinion before 4pm next Fri 11th May 2018.
Councils direction on issues like housing, land availability, Economic Development, Services, Council management, Events, Tourism & facilities for the community are all tied into this budget & 10 year plan  - this is your important chance to have your say.

Despite the massive investments in our region by Casella, Baiada, Cotton, Almonds and many more our economy his slipped backward since 2010 by almost $200 million dollars per year & these draft plans have neither acknowledged this serious issue or tried to address it.
