10 local winners from the Griffith Business Chamber Awards headed to Temora in early September for the Murray Regional Awards. We are pleased to announced 2 Griffith Businesses won their category.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Notice is hereby given of The 66th Griffith Business Chamber Annual General Meeting.

When: Thursday 17th October 2019

We're always looking for fresh, motivated business people who are passionate about what affects our business community. Please consider putting your hand up to join our committee.  Chamber's collective purpose/goals are our 10 Point Plan.  Everything we do is centred around these points. The new committee once elected, will have the chance to re-evaluate these goals to ensure we are current. It's important to mention, these goals are inspired by member feedback each year.

The major driver to kick start Griffith’s economy as demonstrated by State and Federal Governments is new homes. Griffith’s Housing Crisis was exacerbated by Griffith City Council’s “Developer Water Tax” which has been now withdrawn and admitted by Council to be not enforceable.
This extra water Tax has cost Griffith’s community and Businesses millions of dollars as it inflated the land and development prices which flowed through to inflated housing prices.
Below is the response from Council to Developers who have asked for a refund of what they deem illegal extra Water Tax.
“As the contributions have been used for the benefit of the community Council is not considering the repayment or refund of volumetric water contributions made prior to 24th May 2019
This response is completely irresponsible and inappropriate. This Water tax did not benefit the community it is an extra unfortunate burden.
Council needs to refund all developers any Water Tax that was unenforceably levied at current full value before Christmas 2019.
This is to give developers the confidence to invest immediately into new homes for Griffith and ease the housing Crisis, plus greatly stimulate the Griffith’s Economy.
Griffith City Council needs to take an entrepreneurial approach and release shovel ready Lake Wyangan blocks to local Real Estate agents.
Council should start immediately installing the necessary infrastructure like roads, guttering etc. on the Council owned land to strive to create affordable land and in turn affordable and available housing.
This will have the effect of creating jobs, assisting business recruitment, generating millions of dollars in the community in a time of low water availability and would be a major confidence boost for Griffith.

On another note the issue with the Railway terminal in the centre of the City is looking to come to a head in the near future as the Griffith by-pass will create a change with RMS to not permit B-Double trucks into City Area.
