June 2018 Presidents Report

Thank you to all sponsors, everyone who attended and all nominees to The Griffith Business Chamber – Business Excellence awards, the presentation night was a huge success and Thanks again to Amanda for co-ordinating such a fantastic event.

Most members would know that Chamber Executive lodged a 15 page submission  to Griffith City Councils 10 Year plans. View Submission HERE

Our strongest criticism in this submission is Council and the Mayor’s campaign of stifling community input and victimising anyone who attempts to put their view forward - which we believe to be a breach within Local government Act

Council have shown an inability to transparently and actively encourage true community consultation and engagement.

This along with non disclosure of vital 2015/16 and 2016/17 annual reports, an inappropriate substitute of a 10 Year Strategic Plan, misleading information on community economic performance, Housing Crisis, poor representation and reporting on Basin Plan issues, Building Professionals Board breaches, mismanagement of Sports Precinct Project, unplanned and unbudgeted Rose Garden, Clock restaurant, Lake Board walk, Pathway to Hanwood, Skate Park GRALC – Pool and more.

The poor behaviour with regard to respectful and real community consultation could not be more evident at The Land – The Next Crop 7th June Forum when the Chairperson had to pull up Mayor John Dal Broi and ask him to keep it civil as he publicly made rude, aggressive personal attacks towards me and The Business Chamber. https://www.facebook.com/thelandnewspaper/videos/10155789418238353/

This level of hostility presented by Mayor John Dal Broi was repeated and General manager Brett Stonestreet joined in at Griffith City Council Meeting on Tuesday 12th June when Chambers Submission was discussed.

??????????

The audio of this meeting is now not available….

The response to Chamber’s submission by Council was dismissive and the Senior Management Teams recommendations to Councillors an inappropriate marking of their own homework with obvious undeclared conflicts of interest.

Again we believe these are more breaches of Integrated Planning and Reporting Guidelines for local Government in NSW.

We have asked that the Office Of Local Government to launch a thorough investigation into Griffith City Council and review all issues raised in Griffith Business Chamber’s submission, this should happen in the near future.

Why is Mayor Dal Broi so negative?

As The President of Griffith Business Chamber I have been asked by members and community these questions.

Why is Mayor John Dal Broi so negative about a new Public Hospital?

Why is he so negative towards addressing the Housing Crisis?

Why is he so negative about saving The Nurses Quarters?

Why is he so negative about expanding and developing Griffith's education opportunities?

Why is he so negative about supporting the Narrandera to Tocumwal new rail project set to cut freight times to Melbourne port in half?

Why is the Mayor so negative about public transport options?

Why is he so negative about real consultation and so quick to attempt to shutdown community input?

I can only answer that I don't know, he seems bitter and out of touch.
