The State By-Election this week is in full swing (in case you haven’t noticed with saturation Television adverts & a plethora of Politician visits)
One thing is for sure & that is the outcome of this election will be close & The Seat of Murray will no longer be considered a “safe seat”. We thank all candidates for bravely standing & wish them the best for this election.
This Thursday night will be your chance to ask direct questions first hand at GBC, Area News & 2MIA FM "Meet The Candidate Q&A" 5:45pm at The Coro Club, Harward Road, Griffith. The event will be streamed live on Area News Facebook page & broadcasted live via 2MIA FM. It’s an opportunity for members of the public to hear directly from candidates in the upcoming by-election & to find out what their policies & vision are for this region. If you have a question for the candidates, please submit to editor@areanews.com.au or radio@2miafm.org.au by COB today.
Another full state election will occur in around 18 months time & we will be seriously lobbying for significant attention for our 10 Point Plan for Griffith to Thrive & Prosper. Particular attention towards our Base Hospital, Education, Road, Rail, air freight & public passenger air transport will be high priorities.
With the resignation of Council Director Neil Southorn on top of the resignation by Economic & Tourism Manager Greg Lawrence, Phil Harding has been employed for a 6 month period as a temporary Economic Development Manager & will be making a recommendation to Council for the way forward with this Council Department. We will be suggesting the establishment of a new Regional Economic Board modelled on what has been successful with The Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE)
The 64th Griffith Business Chamber AGM is only just over a week away on Wednesday 18th 6PM at Griffith Leagues Club – I strongly encourage any interested member to nominate for Executive & Committee positions by Tuesday 10th October 5pm. Nomination forms and details can be found here.
Kind regards
Paul Pierotti
